Generation X was a British punk band formed in 1976 during the emergence of the London punk scene. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Gene October, guitarist Billy Idol, bassist Tony James, and drummer John Towe. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1978, which featured a mix of fast, tough punk songs with pop sensibilities. Despite their short-lived existence, Generation X left a lasting impact on the punk genre. Billy Idol went on to achieve solo success, while Tony James formed the electro-punk band Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
Following tensions within the group, Generation X disbanded, with Idol and James forming GenX and releasing the album "Kiss Me Deadly" in 1981. The band underwent lineup changes and musical shifts before ultimately disbanding. Post-Generation X, members pursued various musical endeavors, with Idol achieving stardom as a solo artist and James finding success with Sigue Sigue Sputnik. The band briefly reunited for a one-off show in 1993 and released an album of unreleased demos in 1998. In 2018, Idol and James formed Generation Sex with members of the Sex Pistols, marking a return to the music scene after several years.
