Elis Regina, born in 1945 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, began her singing career at a young age, quickly rising to fame with her dynamic stage presence and powerful vocals. Known for her preference for raucous rhythms over the popular bossa nova sound of the time, Regina became one of Brazil's most popular female vocalists by the age of 21.

Despite her immense popularity, Regina faced personal struggles, including battles with stage fright and later, substance abuse. Her career continued to flourish in the 1970s, with acclaimed recordings such as "Elis & Tom" with Antonio Carlos Jobim. Tragically, Regina's life was cut short in 1982 when she passed away at the age of 36 from alcohol and cocaine intoxication, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Brazilian music.
