El Canto del Loco, a pop/rock band from Madrid, Spain, was founded by acting students Daniel Martín García (Dani Martín) and Iván Alejandro Ganchegui. The band, which also included David Otero, Alejandro Velázquez Insua (Jandro), and José María Ruiz Casares (Chema Ruiz), signed with BMG-Ariola and released their self-titled debut album in collaboration with producer Alejo Stivel. Their subsequent albums, A Contracorriente and Estados de Ánimo, achieved commercial success in Spain.
In 2009, El Canto del Loco disbanded after releasing several albums and playing at the Rock in Rio festival. Dani Martín pursued a solo career, releasing an album titled Pequeño, while Chema Ruiz formed a new band called Belgrado.
