Formed in 2007 by Ima Robot frontman Alex Ebert, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros draw inspiration from communal musical communities in Southern California. The ten-piece indie rock outfit released their debut EP, Here Comes, in May 2009, followed by the full-length Up from Below in July. The band gained recognition for their energetic live performances and made multiple television appearances, including on Late Night with David Letterman. Their 2012 album Here reached number five on the Billboard 200 chart and saw success internationally. In 2013, they released a self-titled album that reached the U.S. Top 15. Ebert also won a Golden Globe for his score on the film All Is Lost in 2014. The band's 2016 release, PersonA, showcased a more focused approach to songwriting and recording as a group, emphasizing unity with its cover art.
