Ball's music has been praised for blending swing, honky-tonk, blues, and Tex-Mex influences, with a distinct songwriting style. His 10th studio album, "Come See Me," released in late 2018, showcases melodic country music with a classic, under-produced sound.

In 2018, Omnivore Recordings released the first-ever compilation of Uncle Walt’s Band, titled "Anthology: Those Boys From Carolina, They Sure Enough Could Sing." Ball's platinum-certified album "Thinkin’ Problem" featured the top-selling country song of 1994.
