Dave Edmunds

Dave Edmunds was a purist roots-rocker who stayed true to 1950s and '60s rock & roll, creating a sound reminiscent of Sun, Chess, and Phil Spector records. After achieving success in the early '70s with his meticulous re-creations of oldies, he formed the band Rockpile with bassist Nick Lowe, recording hit U.K. singles and albums. Following Rockpile's breakup in the early '80s, Edmunds continued to make music, including collaborations with producer Jeff Lynne, before retiring in 2017.

Raised in Wales, Dave Edmunds honed his guitar skills playing along to his favorite records by artists like the Everly Brothers and Elvis Presley. He formed Love Sculpture in the '60s, known for their bluesy psychedelic versions of classical songs. Edmunds' solo career took off with hits like "I Hear You Knockin'" and collaborations with Nick Lowe, leading to the formation of Rockpile and a string of successful albums. Despite ups and downs in the '80s, he remained active in music until his retirement, leaving behind a legacy of influential rock music.
