Born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1954, he moved to California to study art and eventually settled there with his wife and children. In the early 2000s, John Prine signed Reeder to his label, Oh Boy Records, after hearing a burned CD sent by the artist. Known for his unique blend of comedy and stoicism in his music, Reeder has been praised by The New Yorker as a prominent outsider artist in modern folk. His songs have been featured in various media, including the Emmy award-winning show Weeds, solidifying his place in the music industry.
