Biography

Dalida, born Yolande Gigliotti, was a renowned singer and actress who achieved immense success in Europe, the Middle East, and Japan. Despite personal struggles, she earned 45 gold record awards and two platinum records throughout her career, with hit records spanning three decades. She began her career in Egypt, winning the title of Miss Egypt in 1954 before pursuing a screen career in Paris, where she found success as a singer under the guidance of producers Bruno Coquatrix and Lucien Morisse. Dalida's transition to rock & roll in the '60s brought continued success, with hits like "Garde-moi La Derniere Danse" and "Que Sont Devenues Les Fleurs."

Dalida's life was marked by personal tragedies, including the suicide of her lover Luigi Tenco, which led to her own suicide attempts. Despite her challenges, she continued to evolve musically and won awards for songs like "Salwa wa Sala." She maintained a devoted fan base, especially in France, and garnered a significant gay following after embracing disco in the '70s. Dalida's life ended tragically in 1987 at the age of 54, but her legacy lives on through her music and enduring cult following in Europe.
