Biography
Formed in 1992 at Texas Christian University, Caedmon's Call combines folk-rock and adult alternative influences with a lineup that includes Cliff Young on vocals and rhythm guitar, Derek Webb on lead guitar and vocals, and Danielle Glenn on vocals. The Houston-based band gained a following through local shows before signing with Warner Bros. in 1996. Their self-produced album "In the Company of Angels: A Call to Worship" achieved commercial success, leading the band to continue producing their own material. Despite lineup changes, including Webb's departure in 2003, Caedmon's Call released several more albums, collaborating with former bandmates on projects like "Overdressed" (2007) and "Raising Up the Dead" (2010).
Their early independent releases in the mid-90s caught the attention of Musician magazine, which hailed them as one of the best unsigned bands in America. After signing with Warner Bros., their major-label debut in 1997 marked the beginning of their commercial success. The band's decision to self-produce their work led to critical acclaim and increased sales, demonstrated by nominations for Dove Awards and successful releases like "Back Home" (2002) and "In the Company of Angels II: The World Will Sing" (2006). Despite lineup changes, Caedmon's Call continued to release new music, with their eighth and ninth studio albums showcasing collaborations with former bandmate Derek Webb.
