Scottish composer and multi-instrumentalist C Duncan blends his classical music background with billowy indie pop, earning acclaim for albums like Architect (2015), Health (2019), and Alluvium (2022). Raised by classical musicians in Glasgow, Duncan's sound evolved from lush bedroom pop to more expansive productions, culminating in the romantic sweep of It's Only a Love Song (2025). He crafts his songs one instrument at a time in his home studio and signed with FatCat Records in 2013 before moving to Bella Union in 2021.
Duncan's musical journey began with piano and viola lessons in his youth, leading to formal music composition studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His debut album, Architect, garnered a Mercury Prize nomination in 2015, followed by The Midnight Sun (2016) and the deeply personal Health (2019). Transitioning to Bella Union, he released Alluvium (2022) and explored a more orchestrally driven sound on It's Only a Love Song (2025), influenced by his recent marriage and a nod to classic singer/songwriter stylings.
