Banda Calypso, a Brazilian band with influences from regional rhythms of the state of Pará, was formed in Belém on June 10, 1999, by singer and dancer Joelma Mendes and guitarist/producer Cledivan Almeida Farias, known as Ximbinha. Their self-titled debut album sold a million copies and earned a gold certification in Brazil. The group's popularity continued to rise with successful album releases and live DVDs, notably "Ao Vivo em São Paulo" (2003) and "Na Amazônia" (2005), as well as their fifth studio album "Volume 8," solidifying their presence in the Brazilian music scene. Their record "Banda Calypso pelo Brasil" (2006) achieved the highest sales in their career, selling over 2 million copies and earning a quintuple diamond certification, making them the only Brazilian band to achieve this milestone.
