Bahamadia, born Antonia Reed in Philadelphia, gained recognition in the late '90s as a protégée of Gang Starr's Guru. She made her mark on the hip-hop scene with her smooth-flowing raps, collaborating with various electronica and acid jazz artists. Her independent single "Funk Vibe" caught the attention of Guru, leading to a record deal with Chrysalis. Her debut LP "Kollage" in 1996 showcased her jazzy style and laid-back delivery, produced by Guru, DJ Premier, and the Roots. Despite Chrysalis folding shortly after, Bahamadia continued to make guest appearances and host a radio show, cementing her underground reputation.
In 2000, Bahamadia signed with Goodvibe and released the well-received EP "BB Queen," demonstrating her versatility and receiving positive reviews. Throughout her career, she collaborated with a diverse range of artists, from the Roots to Morcheeba, showcasing her lyrical prowess and distinctive style.
