Bad Books is a collaborative project between Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra and solo artist Kevin Devine, blending reflective indie rock and anxious power pop with crisp vocal harmonies. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2010, followed by a hiatus before returning with a more cinematic sound on their third album, III, in 2019.
After touring together in 2007, Hull and Devine released a split EP in 2010 and formed Bad Books with bassist Jonathan Corley, drummer Ben Homola, and Manchester Orchestra's Chris Freeman. Their debut album landed on the Billboard 200, leading to a second album in 2012 with the hit song "Forest Whitaker." Following individual projects, the trio reconvened for III in 2019, opting for a more atmospheric production style.
