Ahlam is a Moroccan electro-trad band signed to Barbarity label in Switzerland, following in the footsteps of Aisha Kandisha's Jarring Effects. They blend traditional instruments like djembe and mandolin with rai-type vocals, electric guitar, bass, and electronic sampling, creating a unique sound that fuses indigenous Moroccan music with Western rock, dance, and dub. Their debut album, Revolt Against Reason, features a mix of Moroccan pop and experimental electronic elements, while their second album, Messages from Arabs, co-produced by Bill Laswell, leans more towards a club-friendly vibe with programmed beats and samples, albeit losing some of the initial unpredictability.
