Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956) was an English writer renowned for creating the beloved character Winnie-the-Pooh and for his children's poetry. Prior to the immense success of Winnie-the-Pooh, Milne was primarily known as a playwright, having served in both world wars as a lieutenant and captain in the military. Inspired by his son Christopher Robin's fondness for a bear named Winnipeg at London Zoo, Milne wrote the Winnie-the-Pooh stories, leaving the original manuscripts to the Wren Library at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Milne's son, Christopher Robin Milne, was the basis for the character Christopher Robin in his father's stories. The inspiration for Winnie-the-Pooh came from a visit to London Zoo, where Christopher Robin befriended a gentle bear named Winnipeg. Milne's legacy lives on through his endearing tales and the preservation of the original manuscripts at Trinity College, Cambridge.
